Academics

Though Bryan has written many books and articles for a popular audience, by training he is a scholar in the field of patristics, or the study of the early church fathers. His Ph.D. from the University of Virginia is in the field of ancient Christianity. Bryan’s scholarly interests include the history and theology of martyrdom, the effect of Emperor Constantine on church history, patristic biblical interpretation, and the function of creeds in the ancient church.
